The Faculty of Law was established in September 2000. Courses began in the 2001-2002 Academic Year with 22 first year students and 67 preparatory students concentrating mainly on development of English Language skills.
Despite its young history, the Faculty is committed to break away from the classical and outdated approaches of legal education and provide a programme addressing the national and international challenges which Turkey is facing. In this respect, the Faculty provides a rich academic programme, combined with experiential learning. Thus, our core courses (i.e. Administrative Law, Civil Law, Commercial Law, Constitutional Law, Obligation Law, Public International Law) and numerous electives (i.e. International Arbitration Law, International Commercial Law, International Protection of Human Rights, and Theory of Rights) are complemented with seminars, workshops and legal clinics. In preparation for the groundwork necessary for Turkey's entry to the European Union, we have established the Institute for Global Understanding of Rule of Law. This Centre not only endeavours to provide students with a great vision of international law and comparative criminal law but also organises regular seminars and workshops for judges, lawyers, the police force, non-faculty students and the public at large.
