Department of Environmental Engineering

Environmental Engineering is an up-and-coming engineering branch which arises from the coming together of nature, society and technology. It aims to protect nature from the negative effects of human beings, and vice versa, and to make human health and environmental conditions better. Nowadays, the rapid increase and density of environmental problems multiply and diversify potentials for study.

Bahçeşehir University’s Environmental Engineering Department offers the following undergraduate and postgraduate programs:

  • Environmental Engineering Undergraduate Program
  • Energy and Environment Postgraduate Program

The Department of Environmental Engineering also offers double major and the following lateral branch program:

  • Environmental Engineering Lateral Branch Program

The Department of Environmental Engineering conducts research in the areas of environmental science and technology. Research studies focus upon the following areas:

  • Environmental Systems
  • Water Pollution and Control
  • Air Pollution and Control
  • Energy and Environment
  • Solid and Dangerous Wastes

Studies of environmental systems concentrate upon subjects including understanding, the modeling of natural systems’ structure and dynamics, and designing, operating and optimizing environmental technological systems through simulation.

Research in the area of water pollution and control focuses on both surface and ground water’s sources and pollution studies, and water and drain water technologies. Studies on air pollution and control are related to air pollutant emissions, measurement, modeling, and simulation of air quality.

Research in the area of energy and environmental studies focuses upon making the usage of conventional energy sources more harmonic with the environment, and also focuses on the development of energy sources that are renewable and more suitable for the environment.

Researches on solid and dangerous wastes concentrate upon waste types and quantities, the decrease of wastes at their sources, low waste technologies, collection, recycling, and final elimination of wastes.
