Sociology is a discipline in which interaction between the society and human as well as their processes are examined. The Department of Sociology currently has an undergraduate program which is graduated with a degree of BA.

Features of this program can be summarized as below:

• Sociology Department conducts undergraduate education with an understanding to combine social sciences approaches and human sciences.
• The basic aim of the 4 years program is to provide students with an education matching with contemporary, scientific and global dynamics in the basics of sociology.
• The Sociology department provides the requiring students with minor program opportunity in the fields of “Urban Sociology”, “Legal sociology”, “Social Gender and Family Sociology”.
• The other aim of the program is to conduct and support scientific and original researches in various fields of sociology. Research projects in some fields of sociology are conducted. Social movements, urban transformation, migration, social gender and radical political movements. Research projects aiming to find a solution to social conflicts and social problems created by today’s conditions will be given priority.
• Global and local dynamics are aimed to be paid special attention in research studies.
• Our faculty members play an active role in arranging the national and international congress and symposium.
• Education staff of the department represents 3 main basic disciplines (urban sociology, political sociology and legal sociology).
• Master’s program of sociology is aimed to start in 2010.

The Department of Sociology aims to improve the methodological and ideal analysis skills of students. Sociology education in Bahçeşehir University determines an interdisciplinary frame unlike other traditional sociology programs and aims to emphasize on points where sociology meets anthropology, international relations and history. Courses which improve ideal skills in main subjects of 21^st century such as computer and science, information society, energy and society are given place.

Graduates of sociology have the opportunity to find jobs in a wide range covering public and private sector; and take on tasks at syndicates, industrial and commercial companies, miscellaneous organizations, press and media institutions, research companies, schools and higher education institutions.
