Chairman's Message

Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technologies is a multidisciplinary department that brings together the field of education with computer and instructional technologies. Therefore, it provides its students with a multifaceted education and a variety of job possibilities after graduation. Since the support of computer technologies is needed in almost all areas, it is far from being a luxury for today's individuals to effectively use computer technologies. One of the fields of work of our graduates is to provide computer education for individuals of all ages in all kinds of institutions. A second area of employment that is as important as the first one is to produce educational software and computer applications that will make the engagement of individuals in computers most useful. This is the type of work of our graduates that will contribute the most to the equity and excellence in education, especially in a country like Turkey with a young population. Perhaps, the easiest way to provide individuals with the possibility of accessing whatever educational content they want whenever and wherever is to develop quality materials in which all technical means are used optimally and educational principles are followed carefully. Since knowledge and skills that individuals can acquire through computer applications are innumerable, this kind of work also opens up employment opportunities for our graduates.

To be successful in this multidisciplinary field of work, our students are prepared in three different areas: computer technologies, instructional technologies, and educational sciences. They take courses that make them competent in teaching basic and advanced level computer use to individuals of all ages and in developing educational software and other computer-based materials for these users. Equipped with the knowledge base and skills necessary for the use of technology and the application of pedagogical principles, our students graduate from the program ready to successfully function in fields involving computer-based educational material design and development, information technologies, and educational sciences. As part of the curriculum, a number of courses are also offered on design, development, application, and evaluation of projects applying computer technologies onto instructional media.

Our graduates can work in schools as a "Teacher of Computer and Instructional Technologies". They can also find jobs at all levels of educational institutions as experts of computer-based education. Other opportunities for employment include, but are not limited to, working in companies that develop educational software or provide distance learning. As they take many computer-related courses such as operating systems, programming languages, computer network, databases, graphic design, and internet-based applications, our graduates can also get employed in the field of information technologies as programmers, web designers, etc.
